CHEMICAL PEEL
Use: This procedure restores wrinkled,
blemished, unevenly pigmented, or sun-damaged facial skin
using a chemical solution to peel away the skin's top layers.
It works best on fair, thin skin with superficial wrinkles.
Peel Time (estimate): This procedure takes
about 30-60 minutes for the whole face.
Anesthesia/Pain Control: No anesthesia
is required for this procedure.
Location: This is an outpatient procedure.
Side effects (Possible): Patients may experience
temporary throbbing, tingling, swelling, redness or an acute
sensitivity to the sun. Permanent lightening of treated
skin and permanent loss of ability to tan may also occur.
Complications (Possible): Tiny whiteheads
(temporary) may occur as well as infection, scarring, flare-up
of skin allergies, fever blisters, cold sores, abnormal
color changes (permanent), and heart irregularities (rare).
Downtime: There is no downtime associated
with the Glycolic Peel. The TCA peel has a recommended downtime
of 5 to 10 days. Formation of new skin occurs within 7 to
21 days. Normal activities can occur in 2 to 4 weeks. Full
healing and fading of redness occurs in 3 to 6 months.
Duration of Results: This procedure is
permanent, although new wrinkles may form as skin ages.
